Review: City and Colour in Montréal

City and Colour is the solo folk rock side-project from Alexisonfire's guitarist Dallas Green. He was in Montréal last Saturday, here's what Ben and Hugo from Noise Press thought about it.

As Dallas Green hit the stage, the crowd went wild. Green, while being one of the most talented Canadian musician and singer, remains a shy individual we love to stare at. He’s never one to steal the spotlight, even though, everyone gathered in the St. Denis Theatre came to see him, he let the merch guy steal his thunder for the first song of the show. The show went on with Harris, the merch guy who also played the piano with Black Lungs during last year's tour, doing "Bohemian Rhapsody" on an acoustic guitar with the crowd taking care of the singing.

Dallas came on stage and opened with "Forgive me", the first song off his second full-length album, Bring Me Your Love. He also ended the show with the last song of the album, "As Much as I Ever Could".

Dallas kept switching sets from a whole band, to himself alone playing the songs. Supported by Attack in Black for the first part of the show, Dan Romano, guitarist for the Welland, Ontario-based band, accompanied Green for most of the show. Green even played a new song and a cover from Neil Young, "Cowgirl in the Sand". For "Body in a Box", a song that requires both a guitar and an harmonica, he played it alone, for the auditive pleasure of the home crowd that kept yelling sexual innuendos. Alexisonfire's guitarist cleverly responded to one of the "Make me a baby!" yelled by a man with "Physically impossible."

The show seemed too short, but it may be because time stopped for a while on St. Denis Street in Montréal.

Cover Art Revealed for Alexisonfire's Next Album

This year's most awaited album in Canadian post-hardcore will be launched June 23rd, 2009. Alexisonfire's fourth full-length, Old Crows / Young Cardinals, will be released on Dine Alone Records. The album cover art, shown above, was revealed today by the record label. The St. Catharines, Ontario-based five-piece recently signed to Dine Alone in Canada, home to singer/guitarist Dallas Green's solo project City and Colour. The band also shot a music video this weekend for the first single off the new album: "Young Cardinals". The video was shot on the "Maid of the Mist" in the Niagara region. AoF will be touring all summer on the Vans Warped Tour.

Alexisonfire Signs to Dine Alone Records

After this weekend's win for Dallas Green at the JUNO Awards for songwriter of the year, singer and guitarist from Alexisonfire announces that the band is signing to Dine Alone Records. The Canadian post-hardcore band from St. Catharines, Ontario will release their fourth album Old Crows / Young Cardinals in the summer of 2009 on Dine Alone. This newest album is currently in its last miles of recording and mastering in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Third Studio Album for City and Colour?

Canadian musician Dallas Green is rumoured to release a third full length studio album from his folk rock solo side-project, City and Colour, before the end of 2009. The vocalist and guitarist for post-hardcore band Alexisonfire is currently in the studio with his other bandmates recording their upcoming album entitled Young Cardinals set to be released in May 2009.

Alexisonfire Hits the Studio

According to the band's blog, Canadian five-piece band Alexisonfire are currently in Vancouver, British Columbia, in the studio, recording their fourth full-length album entitled Young Cardinals. This new album is scheduled to be released during summer 2009 on Distort Entertainment (in Canada) and on Vagrant Records (in the US). For the second time, AoF are working with Nick Blagona (of Deep Purple, Protest the Hero, Ten Second Epic, and a lot more... fame), who had produced their last album Crisis.

Interviewed by Chart Attack in January, George Petit revealed that this time, he would scream less and sing more... or scream less and shout more as he said.

This proves Internet rumours to be wrong about the band breaking up. This might be due to Dallas Green's very successful solo side-project City and Colour.

No official track listing of Young Cardinals has yet been provided, but it should include the following: "Born and Raised", "No Rest", "Young Cardinals", "No Police", "Two Sisters", "The Northern", "Fire" and "Hard Souls" which have been played during the last tour across Canada.
